AP-5181 Outdoor Access Point is designed to work in harsh environments such as in warehouses, shipping yards, processing plants, distribution centers and more. With the outdoor purposes, AP-5181 is designed to withstand wind, rain, and extreme temperatures for use in hazardous locations, such as oil and gas plants and more Extended temperature range.
Motorola AP-5181 Outdoor Access Point is suitable for outdoor purposes in harsh environments with its NEMA 4X-modified housing including integrated lightning arrestors, surge protectors power tap kit (used to convert high voltage on light poles to low voltage to run the AP), extreme temperature range operation (from -30° C to 55° C /-22° F to 131° F) and an array of antenna.
Mesh Networking
AP-5181 Outdoor Access Point can be deployed in a mesh networking mode, flexible, easily-managed network. With its dual-band 802.11a/g supports, AP-5181 can be connected to other access points for data backhaul while providing network access to local users. AP-5181 can be deployed in simple point-to-point bridges connecting two wired networks, or you can connect in a complex manner – multi-node, multi-link networks. All of this can be implemented outdoors wirelessly without the added cost of installing the complexities of network cabling or fiber optic infrastructure. See also the concept of the network bridge
The beauty of this AP-5181 Outdoor Access Point is the self-assembling and self-healing aspects of a mesh network which makes the network flexible and easy to manage. Deploying and maintaining this AP-5181 for a secure wireless network is almost effortless with the addition of the straightforward configuration interface.
AP-5181 Outdoor Access Point supports the QoS Wi-Fi multimedia (WMM) with integrated router / firewall (to help protect against the threats), DHCP services (to provide the IP address configuration to the clients), AAA (for authorized users) and hotspot services (for company guest access), the AP-5181 offers a superior outdoor 802.11 WLAN solution.
Cost-effective
With the wireless AP mesh mode capability, the AP-5181 outdoor access point provides a safe extension of the corporate network in hazardous locations. For the deployment in the hazardous environments commonly found in the petrochemical, oil and gas, aerospace and utilities industries, AP-5181 offers the certifications required for safe operation. The AP-5181 outdoor access point provides the real-time wireless voice and data connection to help workers improve the productivity in a mission critical infrastructure. Video can also be enabled using the 802.11a standards to support the safe operation of the critical plant infrastructure. The mesh mode capabilities both in point-to-point and point-to-multi-point complex mode with this dual-band Access point would be an ideal solution for extending wireless voice and data services to remote power plants.
Adaptive Switch Assisted Mesh
The beauty of this AP-5181 outdoor access point is the Adaptive Switch Assisted Mesh feature where the mesh AP’s can be centrally configured from the wireless switch. Local bridging of mesh traffic allows the mesh network to remain fully operational even if connectivity to the wireless switch is lost.
Wireless IPS Sensor
The other feature this AP-5181 outdoor access point is that it integrates AirDefense sensor firmware to allow you to deploy AP-5181’s with one radio configured for WLAN coverage and the second radio configured as an AirDefense sensor for 24×7 compliance monitoring, rogue detection and termination, as well as troubleshooting. By separating WLAN on a radio band and other radio band dedicated for AirDefense sensor functionality – gives you the highest level of security as compared to other IPS solutions that share the same radio for WLAN coverage and IPS on a time sliced basis.
Mesh technology provides a convenient, flexible, scalable and cost-effective means to extend the corporate network — indoors and outdoors — to areas that are typically expensive and hard to cable, including warehouses, shipping yards, processing plants, distribution centers and more.
