The Netgear CGD24N / CGE24N is an all-in-one device that integrates three devices into a single compact device: a router (with dual firewall feature), a four-port Switch, and a wireless N access point. Generally you require a modem separately and a wireless router with a four-port switch for building a wireless network in home. Two devices you have to configure each of them to work technically in sharing the broadband internet connectivity with many computers. They will just create a complication for newbie who know nothing about networking. With all-in-one wireless cable router CGD24N / CGE24N, you have a single configuration which is typically configured by your ISP for you at the first time you sign up the service.

The CGD24N / CGE24N cable wireless router supports DHCP server for your LAN which is enabled by default. With DHCP server enable, all the clients (both wired and wireless) receive the IP address configuration automatically only if you configure the TCP/IP property to “obtain the IP address automatically”. For client computers with wireless adapters (with WPS ready), connection is easier by just pressing a button.

Wireless clients with WPA/WPA2 ready can utilize this strong wireless security encryption to connect securely to the CGD24N / CGE24N cable modem router with WPA/WPA2 security enable. This cable modem router supports WPA/WPA2 with WPS feature for easy client connection by just pressing a button.

As general, to setup the CGD24N / CGE24N the figure 1 can be used to connect the devices in your home networking. Connect the coaxial port to your cable broadband coax line. With your XBOX gaming console, you can add a wireless gaming adapter to let you connect the device to the internet wirelessly, eliminating the messy wires in your living room.

With the wireless N speed up to 300Mbps this router can deliver, you can add multiple port wireless bridge such as D-Link DAP-1513 four-port wireless bridge to allow you connect up to four Ethernet-base devices including the XBOX, Blu-Ray, HDTV etc.

Network Expansion
