Cisco RV082 is a dual WAN router with load balancing capability. The router is equipped with two WAN ports you can connect to two different ISPs for load balancing. One WAN port is designed for primary WAN connection, while the other WAN port can be configured for second WAN port or as the DMZ port. This second WAN port can be configured for load balancing with Smart Link backup. Or you can configure this second WAN port as the DMZ port to allow you host public resources when requirement for that exist such as for Email server or for FTP server.
Failover and Load Balance
Cisco RV082 can be configured as the Failover or as Load balancing depends on your business requirements. You can connect both WAN ports to different ISP and configure them in load balancing solution. Cisco uses WRR (Weighted Round Robin) to compute the ratio of the bandwidth to make load balancing between WAN1 and WAN2 ports.
With Smart Link Backup, you can also configure both WAN ports as the failover and failback for constant internet connection. WAN1 port can be configured as the primary internet connection and the WAN2 port as the backup connection. The router includes the network service detection to allow you configure the system to failover to the backup connection when the primary connection fails. This is a good solution for small offices that require constant internet connection.
Virtual Private Network
Cisco RV082 load balancing router support the native VPN. It can supports up to 100 IPSec VPN tunneling for secure remote office tunneling and it also supports up to 50 QuickVPN users for remote client access. You can use secure connection security including DES, 3DES, AES-128, AES-192, AES-256 encryption and MD5 / SHA1 authentication.
LAN
To provide wired connection for computers in your small offices, the Cisco RV082 is equipped with 8x 10/100 Ethernet ports for your local network. All of these Ethernet ports support VLAN (Virtual LAN). You can segregate your network based on the security policies to meet your business needs.
For small business networks, the router includes DHCP sever feature to provide the IP address configuration for all the computers in the network automatically, thus reduces overhead administration. Web-based configuration utility helps you configure the router easily including creating filter for host who can and cannot access the internet.
