Cradlepoint MBR95 Wireless Mobile Router

Cradlepoint MBR95 Wireless Mobile Router – compatible with 3g/4g cellular network, WAN Ethernet port with failover to 3g/4g

cradlepoint mbr-95Cradlepoint ships wide range of wireless mobile routers ranging from pocket / travel mobile router (CTR500 travel router) to small business mobile router (MBR1200 mobile router). Another series of home mobile router by Cradlepoint is MBR90 which supports any types of 3g/4g USB cellular modems as well as wired broadband modems either cable or ADSL with fail-over feature. A year later, Cradlepoint introduces another series of home wireless mobile router – the MBR95 which nearly has the same features as the MBR90 wireless mobile router.

Unlike MBR90 which includes two external antennas, the CradlepointMBR95 is designed with internal antennas (2×2 MIMO technology) and it looks rigid and elegant. What are major differences between the two routers?

At a glance the two MBR90 and MBR95 routers have similar features including the 3g/4g cellular network compatibility, include one WAN port and four Ethernet LAN ports. Cradlepoint wireless mobile routers support any types of most popular 4G/3G USB Modems. When you connect the USB cellular modem (with your cellular data plan account) to the router you can instantly create a Wi-Fi network and let you share a single data plan with up to 32 wireless clients.
Both MBR90 and MBR95 wireless mobile routers include one WAN Ethernet port. They are like other standard home wireless routers you can connect to either Cable or ADSL modem to let you share a single broadband Internet with many computers within the network coverage up to 600ft, delivering the high speeds up to 300Mbps (MBR95). For wired connection like other home routers, they include four LAN Ethernet ports – fast enough connecting to mostly computers with NIC adapter.

The other important feature both routers support is the failover – failback. When you install the router with both wired modem (Cable / ADSL) as the primary internet connectivity and the USB cellular modem as the backup connection when the primary internet fails the system will failover to the secondary connection automatically. And the good thing is that the system failback to the primary connection when the system is restored.

So what are the major differences between the MBR90 and MBR95 wireless mobile router?

Gaming Features

I don’t see any gaming features in MBR95. The MBR90 wireless mobile router includes two important features you cannot find in MBR95: the GSP and ALG. the MBR90 includes the Game Specific Presets (GSP) with TCP & UDP port forwarding for over 500 games that work automatically with its ALG (Application Layer Gateways) to open and close ports based on gaming traffic. This router provides you unlimited gaming experiences which is ideal for your entertainment purposes.

Guest Network

Many of new generation home / SOHO routers support guest network today which is very important in some cases when you require providing internet access for your guests – a separate network other than your normal network. you can create your secure network with prioritized connection while you share with others on guest network. MBR95 supports guest network but MBR90 doesn’t.

Flexible Networking

MBR95 can work normally as the wireless router for sharing the cellular network or broadband wired internet in home. But the router has special feature: you can configure it as the repeater for extending your existing wireless coverage. Or you can configure it as the wireless bridge by connecting the Ethernet based devices as the wireless clients for your existing wireless network. Off course you will not purchase this router mainly to configure it as the wireless repeater. You may consider hi-gain wireless range extender in this case such as Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain USB Wireless 300N Range Extender. Or if you mainly use it for wireless bridge device, you may consider the new generation of D-Link DAP-1513 wireless dual band Media Bridge.

Networking Diagram

Like other wireless routers, the figure below shows you networking diagram of wireless mobile router (MBR95) with Cable connection for wired internet and USB modem for cellular network.

The router is connected to both broadband wired internet and the USB cellular modem for failover when primary connection fails. Click here for more details about MBR9 Cradlepoint.
