The DCM-202 D Link Cable Modem is DOCSIS 2.0 CableLabs Certified, which ensures compatibility with all DOCSIS compatible cable providers. The DCM-202 is also backwards compatible with DOCSIS 1.1/1.0 standards. See also DOCSIS 3.0 Cable modem – a new generation of the Cable modem.
DCM-202 D Link Cable Modem offers you the choice of Ethernet or USB connectivity. It is easy to install and is compatible with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, Mac OS, Unix and other popular operating systems (USB connectivity is limited to Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP).
With DCM-202 D Link Cable Modem, when you use USB connection, you need to configure the modem to be recognized by your computer by installing the USB driver from the CDROM that comes with the modem.
But if your computer has a NIC adapter, you can use the UTP Ethernet cable to connect the WAN RJ-45 port from the modem to the NIC adapter of the computer (it must be a cross type cable). But do not connect both USB and WAN ports, choose one of them, my preference is using the WAN port connect to NIC adapter. And assure that the LAN connection property of your NIC adapter is set to “obtain the IP address automatically”. In Windows XP and later, the default of NIC or Wi-Fi adapters setting is “obtain the IP address automatically”.
With DCM-202 D Link Cable Modem, you can connect the WAN port of the modem to the WAN port of the wireless router (such as DGL-4500 or DGL-4300) to build your home wireless network to share the broadband Internet connection with some computers anywhere within the house without the clutter of the wire cable. Not just that, if you have the high definition TV (HDTV), you can extend your Windows Vista media center to the HDTV wirelessly and allows you stream your movies, video, music and play your game console with your HDTV screen LIVE wirelessly in the comfort of your living room. Sounds great, right?
