D Link offers broadband providers many types of cable modem for deployment to the customer premises including cable wireless modem router
Cable broadband services are more popular in some regions compared to DSL services. D Link offers many types of cable broadband modem that can be deployed to the customer premises either modem only device or modem with wireless router integrated in a single device.
Like Surfboard with its DOCSIS 3.0/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 modems such as Surfboard SBG6120 DOCSIS 3.0 modem, D Link offers service providers modem devices for upgrading to the next generation of DOCSIS 3.0/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 cable infrastructures. The following shows some types of D Link cable modem devices offered to the service providers.
DCM-202 DOCSIS 2.0
DCM-202 is DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem and is backward compatible with DOCSIS 1.1 /1.0. The maximum downstream speed is around 38Mbps (64QAM) / 43Mbps (256QAM). The maximum upstream speed is Max Speed: 320, 640, 1280, 2560, 5120kbps (QPSK); 640, 1280, 2560, 5120, 10240kbps (16QAM)
This modem includes one 10/100Mbps Ethernet port you can connect to a single computer or connect to any types of broadband home wireless routers such as D-Link DIR-601 N150 wireless router to the high speed of DIR-665 N450 router. Actually you can add a LAN switch to expand the Ethernet ports but you have to manage the DHCP server for providing the IP address configuration to the client computers on the network or providing manual static IP address to each of the computers. This is because the modem doesn’t support the DHCP server feature like other home wireless routers (the NAT function).
The modem includes one USB 1.1 port you can connect to a single computer if it doesn’t have an Ethernet port available.
D Link DCM 301 DOCSIS 3.0/EuroDOCSIS 3.0
DCM 301 is the latest generation of D Link cable modem which is DOCSIS 3.0/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 compliant and is backward compatible with DOCSIS 2.0/EuroDOCSIS 2.0 cable infrastructure. This is the high speed modem which delivers the transmission of up to 320Mbps downstream and up to 120Mbps upstream.
Unlike the DCM-202 which includes one 10/100Mbps Ethernet port, this DCM 301 includes one Gigabit (10/100/1000Mbps) port you can connect to a broadband wireless router. There are many high performance wireless gigabit routers available in the market today you can connect to this gigabit cable modem to provide maximum data throughput between the modem and the router.
Like the DCM 202, the DCM 301 is a modem only device which doesn’t include the NAT function and DHCP feature. Connect to the wireless router and enable the DHCP server feature for IP address management.
D Link DCM 702 Wireless DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 3.0
It’s like the DCM 301, the DCM 702 is powered by DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding technology. Delivering transmission speeds of up to 320Mbps downstream and 160Mbps upstream, the modem is high speed modem router for high performance cable providers.
The DCM 702 is a single device for all the requirements to create a wireless network in homes with high speed both wired and wireless connectivity. The modem includes four gigabit (10/100/1000Mbps) LAN ports you can connect to the computers with gigabit-ready for maximum data rate throughput.
Not just that, the modem integrates the Access Point with wireless N technology. You don’t to add a wireless router for creating a wireless network in home.
Unlike the other two modems above, the DCM 702 supports the DHCP function you can enable to provide the IP address configuration automatically to any of the computers on the network. It supports the NAT (network address translation) for hiding your internal network from the public network (the internet). Besides, the NAT function allows you share the broadband internet with other computers on the network.
