D-Link DAP-1562 is a dual band selectable Wireless Media Streaming Kit with 4×4 spatial streaming delivering high speeds of up to 600Mbps
Streaming HD media in an environment where too many obstacles exist (such as the concrete walls and the density of AP devices around) frequently causes suffering in signal reception. With multiple concrete walls separating between the wireless client and the wireless router, signal reception will drop significantly. With the density of the AP devices around can also contribute interference – causing the wireless signal strength to drop as well. These conditions frequently cause the performance of the HD video streaming to be very poor.
D-Link introduces DAP-1562 Wireless Media Streaming Kit with 4×4 spatial streaming to deliver high speeds of up to 600Mbps an ideal solution for streaming High Definition video in a dense neighborhood of too many APs or too many obstacles.
DAP-1562 wireless media streaming kit includes two DAP-1560 devices which is designed to work out of the box in a pair. One device (with label #1) is defaulted to be the
Access Point (AP) devicewhich must be connected to your existing network. While the other device (label #2) is configured as the bridge devicewhich must be connected to any Ethernet-ready devices including XBOX console, Blu-Ray player, HDTV etc.
The DAP-1562 is powered by the latest wireless N technology with selectable dual-band support to work either in 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands (clean band with less interference). By operating the devices in 5GHz band, the devices will deliver optimum data throughput – ideal solution for lag-free gaming or jitter-free media streaming. The QoS features helps you prioritize the data streaming including VoIP, HD video streaming, and gaming to run smoother over your existing wireless network.
In your existing wired environment (with Internet connection) where wireless networkis not available yet, deploying this types of wireless media streaming kit is a good decision should the HD media streaming is mostly what you play. While with your other wireless client computers, you can connect them to the network wirelessly via the first DAP-1560 device which is in AP mode.
Cons:
- The device is equipped with a single Ethernet port which only connects to a single Ethernet-ready device to the network in a time. It is less functional compared with other bridging media with multiple Ethernet ports.
- The device supports dual-band but selectable, meaning you can only work in a single band in a time either in 2.4GHz or 5GHz. If you have mix devices then you cannot connect them in a time.
The following figure shows a general networking solution that deploys the DAP-1562 wireless media streaming kit. You connect a Blu-Ray player, or XBOX console, or Ethernet-based HDTV to the DAP-1560 in Bridge mode to the wireless network in a time.

Should you have many home theater devices (with Ethernet-ready), you can consider WLI-TX4-AG300N. The Buffalo WLI-TX4-AG300N AirStation Nfinitiis a wireless N dual band Ethernet converter with 4-port Ethernet to let you connect up to four Ethernet-ready devices to the wireless network.
