D-Link DGL-4300 Wireless G gaming router
When the wireless N (draft 802.11n) technology was not introduced into the market, the DGL-4300 wireless G with enhanced technology was so popular to support wireless gaming environment. Wireless G standard with 54Mbs bandwidth is relatively very slow compared with new wireless technology today with wireless N technology which is engineered to reach the speed up to 450Mbps with three spatial data streaming. Theoretically this new technology speed is nearly 8 times as fast as wireless G standard.
D-Link DGL4300 is engineered with enhanced wireless G technology delivering the speed up to 108Mbps nearly twice as fast as the wireless G standard network. No support from the manufacturer when the product is discontinued. Now, if you require upgrading this router which router is to upgrade?
Have a look at the main features the DGL-4300 supports:
- GameFuel technology for optimized gaming experience
- Enhanced 108Mbps wireless g device
- Gigabit Ethernet ports
You should upgrade to any routers with much better features and higher performance it can deliver for your satisfaction.
D-Link DIR-657 Wireless Media Router
The D-Link DIR-657 is a new media router introduced into the market in the middle of 2011. What is so special with this router to replace your aging DGL-4300 gaming router?
Main features:
- Wireless N support up to 300mbps. Compare with your aging DGL4300 router with 108Mbps, more than 2.5x as fast as the speed of your aging router.
- Gigabit Ethernet ports (LAN and WAN interfaces). The gigabit ports are also included in your aging DGL4300 router, so not a serious consideration
- HD-Fuel technology QoS prioritization engine. This technology is almost the same with the one in DGL4300 but with QoS enhancement
- USB 2.0 port with Shareport technology. Shareport technology allows you add any types of USB 2.0 devices including the external hard disk storage or printer for share. It also includes one SD Card slot with DLNA standard
The D-Link DIR-657 is IPv6 certified, which is ready for the future of IP addressing where IPv4 is exhausted.
Cons:
- This router works in single 2.4GHz band, so if you have multiple devices which operate in mix bands, only wireless devices with 2.4GHz band can connect to the network. any dual band capable devices would only work in 2.4GHz band
- Doesn’t support guest network to segregate your network
To help you setup your new router replacing your aging DGL-4300 gaming router, connect the WAN port of your DIR-657 to your existing modem. If you have multiple home multimedia devices including XBOX, Blul-Ray and HDTV, you may consider internet adapter with multiple-port ready such as D-Link DAP-1513 wireless media bridge, but for single device you may consider Netgear WNCE2001 universal internet adapter.
