DIR 450 DIR 451 Cellular Routers are designed specifically to share a single 3G account for cellular data services with many computers or Skype phones within the router network coverage.
Overview
Mostly cellular phone companies today offer data services (including email, Web browsing and other Internet applications) on their network to their consumer Smartphone devices. Unlike traditional Wi-Fi hot spots where the router must be connected to the DSL/Cable services via local loop to the central office, 3G networks use cellular networks that span large geographical areas around cities and highways you can access with your single 3G account. You can share a single 3G account with the computers by creating a Wi-Fi 802.11 network using DIR 450 – DIR 451 Cellular Routers.
What these products do
DIR 450 DIR 451 Cellular Routers allow you to setup and share a wireless network while you’re on-the-go with your 3G account. You can easily create a secure wireless 802.11 network quickly using a cellular signal to allow you access the internet connection and share it with other computers virtually anywhere within a wireless broadband network. In traditional DSL/Cable services, you need DSL/Cable modem to connect the internet into the broadband router. In 3G networks, you need an 1xEV-DO, UMTS, or HSDPA Internet PC card and connect it to the DIR-450 / DIR-451 cellular router as shown in the following 3G network diagram.
USB or Cardbus modems
DIR-450 includes USB and CardBus slot you can use for Internet adapter connection and supports 1xEV-DO services. But for DIR-451 supports only Cardbus slot and supports UMTS/HSDPA. For wired connections, the routers support 4-Port 10/100 Switch. All your investments in wireless devices such as USB wireless adapters still can connect to these 3G cellular routers.
How Secure the Network Is
DIR 450 DIR 451 Cellular Routers support the latest wireless security features Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2) to prevent unauthorized access. They also support WEP for legacy client connections. Besides, to prevent any types of Internet threats – the routers are powered by dual-firewall features (SPI and NAT). NAT (network address translation) helps the router hide the private network from the public internet.
To support the remote connection to the private network, the routers support VPN (virtual private network) pass-through. In off-site or emergency situations, users can connect to the corporate network securely and remotely.
DIR 450 DIR 451 Cellular Routers are ideal routers for sharing Internet connection from the 3G networks with some computers in all situations especially on-the-go or in emergency response situations where no DSL/Cable services available.
