The D-Link Dir-665 is the first D-Link router with high speed up to 450Mbps with dual band. Prior this product, D-Link has shipped some wireless dual band routers.
Main features:
- High speed up to 450Mbps
- Selectable dual band with 3×3 MIMO antenna technology
- Gigabit LAN and WAN Ethernet ports
- Intelligent QoS prioritization engine
The 3×3 MIMO antenna technology uses three spatial data streams to deliver the high speeds up to 450Mbps. In N150 router, typically it uses one antenna – with one spatial data stream delivering the speed up to 150Mbps. With three spatial data streams, the speed is three times as fast as the N150 router.
What makes this D-link Dir-665 different with D-link previous dual band routers such as Dir-855 media router or Dir-825? To understand the differences, the table 1 lists the main features for Dir-665 Vs Dir-855 Vs Dir-825 in brief descriptions.
Wireless Technology
All the routers are powered by the 802.11n technology. Dir-665 uses N450 with 3×3 MIMO antenna technology with three spatial data streams to deliver the speed up to 450Mbps each band. Unfortunately, Dir-665 is selectable dual band – meaning the router can work in single band either 2.4GHz or 5GHz band in a time.
Dir-855 and Dir-825 are dual band routers concurrently. Dir-825 delivers the speed up to 300Mbps each band with two external antennas. All the three routers support wireless WPA/WPA2 – the latest wireless security encryption and WPS for easy secure client connection by pressing a button.
USB Port
Unlike the two Dir-825 and Dir-855 which support Shareport technology, the Dir-665 doesn’t support Shareport. Not many D-Link routers support Shareport technology with printer sharing capability. To check, go to http://support.dlink.com and locate the product you want to update the firmware that support Shareport technology for print sharing. The latest firmware installs the Shareport technology with print sharing capability.
All the routers are USB 2.0 compliant. Should you be anxious to know the new D-Link router that is USB 3.0 compliant, click here D-Link Dir-827 with USB 3.0 port.

Networking Diagram
Dir-665 N450 is optimized for HD video streaming and off course for fast gaming experiences and is better work in 5GHz band. The figure 2 shows Dir-665 networking diagram with Dap-1513 wireless media bridge for connecting home theater devices wirelessly to the network.

Dir-665 is selectable dual band delivering the speed up to 450Mbps each band. Unfortunately it is not designed to work in simultaneous dual band, and it doesn’t support Shareport technology.
