DOCSIS 3 was originally released in August 2006 to support IPv6 and to revise to significantly increase transmissions speeds (both upstream and downstream) besides its original version (DOCSIS 2.0) that was revised for enhanced upstream transmission speed to support the IP telephony.

As frequency allocation band plans differ between U.S. and European CATV systems, DOCSIS standards have been modified for use in Europe which is under the name of “EuroDOCSIS”. Mostly Cable modems are designed to comply with both DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS. Even though not all the Cable providers are upgraded their technology with the current DOCSIS 3, they still can use the DOCSIS 3 modems which are backward compatible with the DOCSIS 2.0 or DOCSIS 1.0.

NETGEAR CM232 DOCSIS 3 Cable Modem

NETGEAR CM232 is pre-DOCSIS 3 Cable modem which can deliver data rates up to 100 Mbps – three times that of conventional DOCSIS 2.0 technology.

Please note that this modem is now end of life (EOL), the replacement is CMD31T-CME31T – a full version of Docsis 3.
