DOCSIS 3 was originally released in August 2006 to support IPv6 and to revise the standard to significantly increase transmissions speeds (both upstream and downstream). The original version of DOCSIS 2.0 was revised to enhance upstream transmission speed to support the IP telephony.
Bandwidth allocation plan between the U.S. and Europe are different, so for Europe DOCSIS standard is modified to become EuroDOCSIS. Cable modems in the market today is designed to meet DOCSIS or EuroDOCSIS standard, while the latest technology is DOCSIS 3.0 or EuroDOCSIS 3.0 standard, which is backward compatible with version 2.0 or 1.0.
Various models DOCSIS 3.0 modems
The following are some of the Cable modems which are designed with the DOCSIS 3 technology and also backward compatible with the previous DOCSIS version.
The model is simple, black box with five LED indicators and is very popular among cable subscribers.
Up to 4 channels for downstream and upstream
The SURFboard SB6120 supports all DOCSIS 3 features including channel bonding, IPv6, and Advanced encryption feature. It is compliant with DOCSIS / EuroDOCSIS 3 with channel binding of up to 4 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels for data rate transfer up to 100Mbps. DOCSIS 3 supports the next generation of IPv6 IP addressing system. ISPs can remotely manage, monitor and configure the modem using SNMP and TFTP.
Gigabit Ethernet port
The SBG6120 supports Gigabit Ethernet port you can use to connect to the next generation of high performance wireless routers with Gigabit ports such as Linksys EA6500 wireless ac router or Netgear WNDR4500 and more.
In Amazon, the Surfboard SB6120 receives positive customer ratings with averagely 4.4 out of five stars with the following attribute details:

Surfboard® SBG6580 Series Wireless Cable Modem Gateway
Compared to the SB6120 this modem is designed with a better model with a smooth sides and with curve that is not sharp.
Unlike the SBG6120 modem, the Surfboard® SBG6580 integrates the wireless router into the cable modem in a single device. It is Docis / EuroDocsis 3 compliant enables channel bonding of up to 8 downstream and 4 upstream channels delivering the high speed of up to 100Mbps upstream and up to 400Mbps downstream.
Selectable dual band
The SBG6580 is powered by the wireless N dual band; it is not simultaneous dual band but selectable. It means that the wireless clients with mix operating bands cannot be connected concurrently. The modem router can work either in 2.4GHz or 5GHz band at a time.
The SBG6580 includes four Gigabit Ethernet ports for fast and reliable wired connection to the gigabit-ready computers.
Surfboard SBG6580 receives averagely 3.6 out of five star customer ratings in Amazon with the following attributes:
- 4.4 stars for lights indicator
- 4.2 stars for wireless speed
- 4.6 stars appearance

Unlike the above two models which are black color, this modem is designed with white color model with a stand for vertical positioning.
The CMD31T is the replacement of CM232 DOCSIS 3 cable modem. The Netgear CMD31T-CME31T is DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 3 cable modem delivers the high speed up to 108Mbps upstream and up to 200Mbps downstream, supports channel bonding four channels in each direction.
Like the other two Surfboard modems above, this modem support gigabit Ethernet port for high speed connection to the gigabit WAN port of the routers for maximum data throughput such as WNDR4000 N750 router or the premium version WNDR3800 N600. Both routers support gigabit WAN port.
I think this modem is not sold on the public but to the cable service providers.
