Connect the WAN port (RJ-11) of the router to the DSL / phone line. The WAN port IP address is a public (registered) IP address which is typically provided by the ISP either static or dynamic IP address. While the LAN Switch (4-port Ethernet 10/100 or 1000 Mbps) should be the private class address.

In configuring the router, you need to connect the router to the computer using LAN cable. Connect one of the router’s LAN ports to the computer’s NIC port. Prior to accessing the router through the LAN port, note the following necessary configurations:

    • Identify the default IP address of the router, the following is a list of default IP address of some routers.

      NETGEAR http://192.168.0.1 admin password
Belkin http://192.168.2.1 (Login prompt) (leave blank)
    • Configure the computer to have the IP address with the same network and subnet of the router but different with unique IP address. For example if you use Linksys router, configure the PC with the IP address 192.168.1.x (where “x” is any number between 2and 254).
    • Launch your web browser and type the default URL of the router for example: http://192.168.1.1 and then press Enter
