What can you do with this product?
With the capability this DWL-7100 Dlink Access Point operates in different modes, whether operate as an Access Point, Point-to-Point Bridge, Point-to-Multipoint Bridge, or Repeater – you can customize the need in extending your network.
In WLAN Access Point mode, you can connect the LAN port of this DWL-7100AP to one of the Switch ports of the modem-router such as DSL-2540 D-Link modem to share the broadband DSL Internet connection. With this mode, DWL-7100 Dlink Access Point will extend the network wirelessly. You can connect the computers with wireless USB network adapter to the network, or with wireless Card bus network adapter on the laptop, will allow you connect wirelessly to the network everywhere within the house.
In a point-to-point Bridge mode, you can configure this DWL-7100 Dlink Access Point as the wireless clients (for some computers and other network devices connected to the DWL-7100 with wired connection). For example, you already have a network environment from the wireless router such as DIR-855, and you also have separate wired network – you can connect this network as wireless clients from DIR-855 using DWL-7100AP configured as a Bridge mode.

Or you can configure this DWL-7100AP wireless access point in point-to-multi-point bridge mode. You have multiple wired networks that need to connect to the central network, you need individual Bridges in each networks and point to the Bridge in central network which is configured in Point-to-multipoint Bridge mode.

The DWL-7100 Dlink Access Point provides maximum wireless security by supporting WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access), 802.1x, and three levels of WEP Encryption (64/128/152-bit). Other security features include MAC Address Filtering, Wireless LAN segmentation, Disable SSID Broadcast, and support for Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Encryption.
The DWL-7100AP WLAN Access Point delivers extremely fast wireless performance up to 108Mbps maximum speeds when set in Turbo mode for both Wireless –A/G networks, while still being backwards compatible with 802.11b. With the blazing transfer speeds this DWL-7100AP WLAN Access Point can provide, network administrators can manage enough bandwidth to distribute amongst multiple workgroups and avoid network bottlenecks.
Network administrators can manage the DWL-7100AP WLAN Access Point settings via its Web-based configuration utility or though Telnet. For advanced network management, administrators can use D-Link’s AP Manager or D-View SNMP management module to configure multiple access points from a single location.
