New generations of wireless USB dual band adapter including Netgear WNDA4100, Asus USB-N53, Linksys AE3000 and Belkin

Overview

We know that the optimum data rate throughput can be achieved if both ends of communication devices use the same fast lane – the same high bandwidth. If both ends of communication devices use different bandwidth, the maximum data rate throughput will follow the device with the lowest bandwidth. This is what we call a bottleneck phenomenon. Should you invest a high speed wireless router for your wireless home environment, your wireless clients should also be upgraded to the same or higher speed. Unless, you will just waste the speed of the router can deliver.

Share the bandwidth

Generally manufacturers introduce new high performance wireless routers before introducing high bandwidth adapters to pair with the router. This is reasonable because wireless bandwidth is shared among all the wireless clients connect to the router. Ideally three wireless N150 clients will use full 450Mbps bandwidth optimally in a time if they intensively transfer large bunch of data at the same time. This situation is not always happening in home environments. But in industrial environments, this is possible. However for critical high speed connection, wired connectivity is the preference.

There are various models of wireless USB dual band adapter available in the market you may consider to upgrade your existing legacy clients. Mostly wireless dual band adapters are selectable bands.

Netgear WNDA4100 N900

Currently almost all models of wireless USB dual-band adapter with high speed spec have thick design and slightly bigger than most USB adapters in general, especially compared to the micro USB adapter which almost does not show up when inserted in the USB port of your notebook. So is Netgear WNDA4100 USB adapter, rather thick and stiff and does not seem fashionable, it is also equipped with a cradle as a stand when placed on the table.

These adapters launched after Netgear releasing several models of wireless routers with 450Mbps speed including Wndr4500 N900 router and also Wndr4000 N750 router. Asus USB-N53 N900 USB Adapter

Asus also does not want to miss in complementing high speed wireless USB dual band adapter product – USB-N53 N900 adapter. This is understandable because Asus has released some high speed dual band wireless routers such as Asus RT-N56U N600 and RT-N66U N900. Both routers are successful in the market despite couple of problems at the beginning of its release.

Asus USB-N53 would be great in connecting to RT-N66U router for streaming 3D HD and gaming.

As I said upfront that most high speed adapter design is not small, rather big. So is Asus USB-N53 looks a little bit bloated but with extra flexible cable that can be curved it looks nicer.

Instead of adding USB adapter, you may also consider adding mini-PCI wireless adapter such as Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300.

Linksys AE3000 450Mbps Dual-band

Compared with the above two adapters, Linksys AE3000 product is more attractive though equally as looks bigger than most USB wireless adapter. Design is simple and the surface is rough speckled so it does not slip when is held.

You know that Linksys ships various models of high performance wireless routers and two of them are N900 routers, i.e. Linksys E4200v2 N900 router (the newer firmware for Linksys E4200 N750 router) and the latest one is the cloud router EA4500 N900 cloud router. Not many brand new laptops are equipped by high speed N900 Wi-Fi adapter so far, probably the next generations of Laptops will be power horsed by 802.11ac – the 5g Wifi standard.

Belkin F9L1103 N750 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter

I remember that Belkin introduced two models of wireless USB adapter with draft 802.11n standard including Belkin USB N1 and N+, they look nice and elegant on the table with the stand and USB extension cable. This N750 USB adapter is designed differently with three dual band internal antennas. It’s like a small cellular phone with a flip. Connect to high speed N750 router or N900 router.
