I understand that you would like to replace your aging router WRT54GL Linksys wireless G router with new generations of Linksys router. Are there any reasons you should upgrade your aging router to newer version routers?
Linksys WRT54GL is a legacy wireless G router delivering the ideal speed up to 54Mbps in single 2.4GHz band. With 4x-fast Ethernet ports you can connect up to four Ethernet-based devices including desktop computers or XBOX console. The following reasons can justify you to upgrade your existing router to new generation of Linksys router such as Linksys E1000 N300 router.
1. You have new laptops with built-in wireless N Wi-Fi adapter. Actually mostly new Wi-Fi adapters are backward compatible with legacy devices, but you will waste the powerful adapters that can only transfer the data rate up to 54Mbps when connect to legacy wireless G router
2. You have iPad or any types Tablet computers with Wi-Fi ready. You know that mostly all the tablet computers are equipped with wireless N adapter integrated into the device. They will not perform in their best when connect to legacy wireless G router.
3. You need to cover larger area. Well you can add a wireless range extender. But why you should extend the range of legacy network when you can replace the router with high performance router with multiple times as fast as the speed of your existing Linksys wireless G router and longer distance network coverage?
By not upgrading your existing WRT54GL Linksys wireless G router with much faster router such as Linksys E1500 or even much better router Linksys E4200 N750, your new iPad or any other computer tablets will not perform well in streaming HD media from the internet or even they cannot deliver fast responsive gaming.
Upgrading your Linksys wireless G router (WRT54GL) with new generation of Linksys E1500 is appropriate.
Linksys E1500 main features:
- Powered by wireless N300 technology with single 2.4GHz band
- Three internal antennas with MIMO
- Speedboost for better signal strength and range
- Includes four fast Ethernet ports
- Includes Cisco Connect Software for easy network management and configuration
What I don’t like this Linksys E1500 is that it doesn’t include USB port at least to host the external disk storage.
Providing Linksys E1500 N300 router with Speedboost will lift your wireless network performance to a much higher level to support your new generation gadgets and other fast desktops.
