NETGEAR DG834G Wireless Router – a Wireless-G Router with DSL Modem – One Single Device for all the requirements you need to Built Your Wireless Network at Home or at your SOHO.

When you would like to build a wireless network at home to share your broadband internet connection with the computers in the household you need the following items:

  1. The DSL modem as an interface from the Internet provider to the subscriber premises.
  2. A router / firewall; allows you protect your private network (trusted network) from the un-trusted network or public network (the Internet).
  3. A wireless access point; that will bridge the wireless clients to the wired network

NETGEAR DG834G Wireless Router is a Wireless-G Router with DSL Modem which delivers better connections with less interference which is fully compatible with Verizon, AT&T, Qwest®, EarthLink® and other DSL Internet service providers. Now you can replace the old DSL equipment you received from the ISP and build the wireless network at home easily using the Smart Wizard installation CD.

How do you connect it?

The following is the common diagram you can use to connect this NETGEAR DG834G Wireless-G DSL Modem Router to the Internet. Connect the RJ-11 WAN port from the modem router to the telephone line. If you have the splitter, you can split the telephone line from the Telco to the router and to your phone handset. The WAN port is compliant to ADSL RJ-11, T1.413, G.DMT, ADSL 2+, ITU Annex A.

DG834G Wireless-G DSL Modem Router also supports four 10/100 Mbps autosensing, Auto Uplink™ RJ-45 ports (one Cat 5 UTP cable included). You can connect up to 4 computers directly using Cat 5 UTP cable to this router. If your ISP support the DHCP feature, this modem router also supports the DHCP Client, or if your ISP uses the static IP assignment to the subscriber, you can also set the router with the static IP address provided by the ISP.

What about the clients?

This Wireless-G DSL Modem Router supports the DHCP server that is enabled by default. So if you do not have much knowledge about DHCP server, just leave the factory default that will allow the modem router to supply the IP address and DNS automatically to the computers. Connecting the computers to the router is done using the Push ’N’ Connect using Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS). It supports Microsoft® Windows® Vista™, XP, 2000, Me, 98 SP2 or other operating systems running a TCP/IP network.

How secure?

To protect the private network from the threats, this Wireless-G DSL Modem Router supports dual-firewall features – NAT & SPI. Network Address Translation (NAT) will hide your private network from the public network – the internet, while Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) will examine the traffic more precise than normal to detect any hacker pattern. For clients connection this modem router supports the latest wireless security standards WPA/WPA2 up to 128-bit to help shield wireless connections providing maximum security. For legacy clients, WEP encryption is also supported. The other security features, this Wireless-G DSL Modem Router featuring URL filtering, intrusion logging and reporting, denial-of-service (DoS) protection.

If you would like to make a remote tunneling – a VPN connection to the router, this wireless DSL router also supports Internet protocol security (IPSec) initiation and termination enable secure site-to-site communication with up to five concurrent IPSec tunnels, using VPN Wizard to assist in VPN setup.
