- Setup and Connection Diagram
Netgear WNDR3300 v2 and WNDR3700 v2 are both simultaneous dual band wireless routers. The price of Netgear WNDR3300 is around 30% cheaper than WNDR3700. Netgear categorize both wireless routers into high performance category routers. So what are the main differences between the WNDR3300 Vs WNDR3700?
Even though Netgear have introduced new generations of high speed wireless routers including WNDR400 N750 wireless dual band router, and even the latest one is WNDR4500 N900 ultimate speed, both routers are still expensive compared with the previous generation routers. Unless you really require high speed environment to support hungry bandwidth intensive applications for larger homes, WNDR4000 N750 or the new WNDR4500 N900 is an ideal solution for you.
The table shows the main features for WNDR3300 Vs WNDR3700 dual band wireless routers.
High Speeds
Both routers use the same 802.11a/b/g/n standard – wireless N dual band technology with operating mode up to 300 Mbps at 5GHz and 145 Mbps at 2.4GHz (configurable up to 300Mbps in 2.4GHz) derived from the wireless standards. Both routers provide total bandwidth up to 600Mbps theoretically. Remember, those are theoretical speeds and in the real world would vary due to many environmental factors.
For wired connection, both routers have the same spec: gigabit Ethernet for all the WAN and LAN interfaces, very fast for reliable wired connection to clients with gigabit-enable. But it would be wasteful if you connect to 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports, it will not get the optimum throughput.
Functionality
Being able to share the attached storage into the USB port of the router is vey advantageous. And fortunately both routers support one USB port you can use to host a USB storage. But WNDR3700 is DLNA compliant to seamlessly stream multimedia from the attached storage to the Blu-ray and other DLNA compliant devices.
Guest Network
If you require segmenting your network for security segregation, you cannot do that with your WNDR3300 but you can create one guest network with WNDR3700 in each band. Do you require guest network? If you frequently share the internet with your friends or guests, probably you feel secure with the guest network feature.
| WNDR3300-v2 | WNDR3700-v2 | |
|---|---|---|

Configuration and Setup
Both routers have default manufacturer’s settings, user name “admin” and password “password” with default IP address 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0. You can launch the configuration menu wizard by typing the http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com.
Figure 1 shows networking diagram you can use for each of the router. You need to connect to the modem-only device, a modem without the routing function such as Surfboard SB6120 Docsis 3.0 cable modem. To connect your smart-HDTV or XBOX console, you can consider Netgear WNCE2001 universal Internet adapter, or you may consider the dual band version WNCE3001.
