Netgear WNCE2001 Wireless Internet Adapter

WNCE2001 universal internet adapterNetgear WNCE2001 Wireless Internet Adapter is universal Wi-Fi internet adapter wirelessly connects networked home theater devices to your home network and connect them to the internet so you can enjoy movies, social networking, and online gaming. You may also see this WNHDB3004 Wireless Home Theater.

Unlike other wireless XBOX gaming adapters which allow your XBOX game consoles connect wirelessly to your existing wireless network, WNCE2001 Wireless Internet Adapter allows you connect any types of network enabled devices (such as Blu-Ray players, HDTVs, Internet connected DVR and gaming consoles like Xbox 360) to your wireless network – no clutter of the network cables.

Netgear WNCE2001 Wireless Internet Adapter is powered by the latest 802.11n wireless technology for delivering high speed 2.4GHz band and will work optimally when you connect the device to the wireless network from the wireless routers with the same wireless N technology.

Easy Installation

There are two available options you can use in installing the device, using the WPS and without WPS. When you connect to your existing wireless network with wireless router or wireless access point which supports the WPS, installation is easier by just pressing the WPS button. If your wireless router or AP doesn’t support the WPS feature, you can also install it manually by the connecting to the computer for the setting up. You can follow the instruction guide document for detail easy Installation.

Netgear WNCE2001 Wireless Internet Adapter is ideal for connecting your Blu-Ray players, HDTVs, Internet connected DVR and gaming consoles like Xbox 360 – therefore your router should support features for high-performance wireless environment. Firstly, the router should be powered by the latest wireless N technology (and with MIMO technology) for delivering high-speed and longer distance coverage.

Secondly, your router should support the Quality of Services (QoS) for providing the prioritization of the video streaming and gaming traffic over other data traffic. This will ensure the smooth gaming response and jitter-free video streaming.

Unfortunately WNCE2001 Wireless Internet Adapter doesn’t support the dual-band frequency for both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands. The device supports only 2.4 GHz frequency band, the band that is crowded by other wireless devices which operate in the same 2,4 GHz. With the wireless environment that supports the 5 GHz band, the network is less susceptible to the signal interference.

I wish the WNCE2001 were powered by the dual-band feature to support other Netgear high-performance routers such as WNDR37AV for video and gaming, WNDR3700 N600, or WNDR3400 N600 router for clean wireless network. But fortunately the WNCE2001 is a universal Wi-Fi internet adapter to allow you connect any Ethernet enabled device to the wireless network.

The following figure shows a common network diagram for WNCE2001 wireless internet adapter in connecting the game console or Blu-ray player. You can use any high-performance home wireless n routers for gaming and streaming.

After establishing connectivity between the netgear device and my router/modem I still cannot get my satalite reciever to connect to the internet.

  • Ki Grinsing

@brian: Can you please give more information, did you configure the WNCE2001 and then you lost connection to the internet or you just installed the network but cannot connect to the internet?

my browser IE9 will not connect to http://www.mywifiext.net, when I want to configure wnce2001? Why?
    Running on windows7

  • Ki

can you connect to the router(with wps enable) using wps?
can you connect from windows other than windows 7? if you can access the http:// mywifiext.net from the browser other than windows 7, update the firmware to Version 1.0.0.26.

I consistently am getting the set up wizard to put in my encryption key in order for my WNCE2001 wireless adapter to work. I found on Netgear website today an update to version 1.0.0.26. I have saved a copy to my desktop per instruction, but my browser will not connet to http://www.mywifiext.net or .com. I am stuck and need help.

    @Natalia:

in Netgear website you can find WNCE2001 FAQs:

    (1) Make sure the LAN LED of WNCE2001 is on. Make sure your Ethernet adapter is set to DHCP mode.
    (2) Try to re-open a new browser and input http://www.mywifiext.com , http://www.mywifiext.net, mywifiext.com, or mywifiext.net.
    (3) Reboot WNCE2001 and try above 2 processes again.
    (4) Reset your device to factory defaults.

I am having the same issue with my Netgear adapter and my Xbox. I have worked with wireless networks for years. I have tried everything to get this thing to work. even entering info manuelly. Response from X box was that I could not use a static IP address. I hard lined my Xbox to my N- router and everything works fine. this device is WAY more trouble then it is worth!!!!

  • Jack

@TEE: when you configure the wnce2001 to static address, in your dhcp (in the router) setting did you exclude the static ip address from the dhcp ip pool. I’m just wondering if an address conflict occurs with other network devices.

This is a pain in the rear to get setup. It is automatically attaching to an unsecured network, and I am unable to get to the configuration page in order to get the device setup. The address http://www.mywifiext.net comes up with an error, but surfing the internet is not a problem. WPS does not work, as the device is connecting to another network, NOT MINE. I’ve tried the factory reset multiple times, and keep getting the same issues. Please provide a proper method for getting this device to work correctly.

I beleave that you followed the installation guideline in using the wps: pressing the wps in wnce2001 to show the grren led before pressing the wps on your router. between the device and your router, is it long distance with many obstacles? configure the wps in close proximity with the router to get better signal stregth …

when you configure manually by connecting to the computer, make sure your tcp/ip property is set to obtain the ip address automatically.

I can connect my WNCE2001 to my router but when I move it out of range of the router and try to connect to my wireless extender Netgear WN3000RP I cannot do it. Can anyone tell me if this Is this a limitation on the WNCE2001 or am I doing something wrong. — Thanks.

I have just purchased a WCNE2001 Internet Adapter and I am having difficulty in getting it to locate my wifi network which is non-wps. I have followed the instructions in the installation guide (Installation without WPS) TO THE LETTER and even placed the router within a few feet of the adapter but with no luck. Both the LAN and Power lights are green so the device would appear to be functioning as per Step 3 of the instructions. My Router is a D-Link DSL-G624T ADSL2/2+ and I’m operating under Windows XP. Is there some incompatibility here? Further, thinking that I may need to update the firmware to Version 1.0.0.26, like many others, I tried to link to both http://www.mywifi.net and .com websites but again with no luck. What is the remedy for this(?), and surely after all this time and the number of customer complaints, Netgear should have produced a solution instead of sitting back and causing their customers this frustration.
