By Ki Grinsing

Overview

One of the hallmarks of a product against competing products are features that do not exist in other products. So what’s the difference DIR-827 with the other products?

d link dir-827 hd media router 2000

Few months before this D Link Dir-827 HD media router 2000 was introduced into the market, D Link shipped the Dir-657 HD media router 1000. The main apparent differences between Dir-827 Vs Dir-657 are the dual band and USB 3.0 support. D Link Dir-657 doesn’t support dual band and it includes one USB 2.0 (not USB 3.0).

Note: You may also have a look at new D-link and Linksys EA4500 Cloud router which support cloud technology.

Highlights:

  • Wireless N600
  • Gigabit interfaces
  • USB 3.0 port
  • HD QoS prioritization engine
  • Eco-friendly green technology
  • Guest zone feature

Concurrent dual band N600

Like other home wireless N600 routers which means simultaneous dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) to double your bandwidth demand up to 600Mbps (300Mbps each band). With the capability of operating the network in 5GHz band, you can assure the clean network compared with 2.4GHz band, ideal band for streaming HD media, online gaming and voice applications. Moreover, the router supports HD media Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization engine to provide your HD media streaming and gaming first priority traffic.

Gigabit interfaces

Embedded both LAN and WAN interfaces with Gigabit Ethernet ports in Dir-827 is not surprising, because mostly all D Link routers that support multimedia environment are powered by gigabit Ethernet ports.

Superspeed USB 3.0

What makes this D Link Dir-827 different with other wireless routers is that it includes one USB 3.0 port. With USB 3.0 ready, you can connect any high Super-speed USB 3.0 storage device to the router. Intel specify the speed of USB 3.0 port 10 times as fast as traditional USB 2.0 up to 5Gbps. Can the USB 3.0 port of this router deliver as fast as 5Gbps data rate transfer when connects to USB 3.0 storage device? D Link doesn’t specify the speed.
