TEW-653AP Wireless Network Access Point

TEW-653AP wireless network access point combines high speed up to 300 Mbps, wireless n coverage with Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology

Extending your home network wirelessly, you require a wireless network access point (AP). Typically a wireless AP consists of one (or more) Ethernet port and a power adapter. When you install the AP device, you need a LAN cable (UTP) that connects the device to your wired network (such as a LAN Switch, or a router with Ethernet port enable) and an available power outlet. The bad thing is that should you install the AP device in area where power outlet is not available, you’ll be in trouble.

TEW-653AP wireless network access point combines high speed wireless n 300Mbps coverage with Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology. With PoE enabled Ethernet port, you can install the device in area where power point is not available such as in ceilings. So you just need to run a network cable from the wired network (a Switch with PoE enabled) to the TEW-653AP. If your Switch or the router do not support the PoE, you can use the TPE-1011 power over Ethernet injector.

What this Product Does

TEW-653AP wireless network access point is powered by the latest wireless N 802.11n technology and combined with smart MIMO antenna technology delivers high speed up to 300 Mbps and longer distance range.

TEW-653AP wireless network access point You can operate the TEW-653AP in the wireless access point mode, the Wireless Distribution System (WDS), and repeater modes. With WDS mode, you can configure multiple TEW-653AP devices to create a large wireless network by configuring the devices either in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint modes.

In repeater mode, you can extend your existing wireless network to cover a longer distance area. For example, with your exiting wireless network with TEW-673GRU wireless router, to eliminate dead spots area you can deploy the TEW-653AP which is configured in repeater mode.

The figure below shows a simple networking diagram that uses TEW-653AP. One TEW-653AP is configured as the wireless access point connected to the Ethernet port of the modem-router such as Actiontec GT701D ADSL modem router and the other one is configured as the wireless repeater to provide longer distance coverage of your wireless network.

To configure the AP device, it is recommended to use a wired computer with a static IP address assigned in a range of 192.168.10.XX other than the default IP address of the AP 192.168.10.100.

You can then access the device from your computer browser by typing the default IP address (http://192.168.10.100). The default user-name is ‘admin’ and password is ‘admin’.

Other features:

TEW-653AP wireless network access point allows you to define a weekly power saving schedule, view real time network traffic charts, and turn off the flashing LED indicators.
