Deployment of wireless network environment in harsh industrial areas is very advantageous where running network cables in connecting long distance computer clients is not possible. What you should do is deploying outdoor CPE (customer premises equipments) / wireless access points in any point locations where computer clients are needed to connect to the central office to support the production.
For outdoor harsh environments, your outdoor CPE devices must be waterproof, and must be equipped with lightning protection. The power or the gain of the antenna must also be high and capable of delivering the wireless signal up to 2km, 5km, or more when you deploy the devices in marine areas or in large mining sites. TP-Link TL-WA5210G is ideal solution for long distance access points up to 15 Km.
What this Product Does
TP-Link TL-WA5210G Outdoor CPE is compatible with wireless 802.11b/g client devices. The device is designed specifically for outdoor and long distance wireless environments. It is designed with weatherproof and 15Kv ESD lightning protection with 12dBi dual-polarized antenna – a high-gain antenna to reach long distance computer clients. For areas where power outlets are not available yet such as outside the house, you can take the advantage of the PoE (Power over Ethernet) feature for flexible deployments.
Multiple Operation Modes
The good thing with this TL-WA5210G Outdoor CPE is that the router supports three different operation modes: AP client router, AP router and AP modes. In your large wireless environment with long distance range to cover such as in mining industry or in marine oil & gas industry, you can configure the device as the AP client router. Your central office acts as the WISP (wireless ISP) for your computer clients spread in long distance ranges. Or you can configure the device as the bridge to connect some Ethernet devices wirelessly to your wireless network. In AP mode, you can configure the device in various modes such as access point; wireless client; WDS Bridge and repeater.

You can also configure the TL-WA5210G Outdoor CPE as the Access Point Router mode. You can share your single broadband internet connection with your computer clients by connecting the device with your existing broadband modem (either cable or ADSL). Ideal solution when you deploy the device in harsh outdoor environments with client computers in long distance areas.
AP Client Router Mode Diagram
The figure 2 shows a common diagram when you configure the TL-WA5210G as the AP client router. The device (which is configured as the AP client router) is connected to a single computer as the client of the Wireless ISP (WISP) or hotspot provider.
AP Router
The figure 3 shows a common networking diagram that uses the TL-WA5210G configured as the AP router mode. This is a general diagram like other popular home wireless routers that is connected to the modem (Cable or ADSL) to share the internet connection.
AP Mode
The TL-WA5210G which is configures in AP mode can be configured in various modes of operation including AP; wireless client; WDS bridge or Repeater modes. The figure 4 below shows a common networking diagram for the device in AP mode which connects to the existing LAN.
Security
The TL-WA5210G outdoor CPE supports industrial wireless security including 64/128/152-bit WEP Encryption WPA/WPA2/WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK (AES/TKIP) Encryption.
Unfortunately, should you require the wireless environment with multiple SSIDs (Guest secure access), this outdoor CPE doesn’t support. Basically when you deploy the device in outdoor areas such as in marine or mine sites, you do not need to setup the guest access. Just configure the environment as secure as possible for your private networks.
In indoor usage such as offices, you may setup other wireless access points with multiple SSIDs support such as TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N PoE Access Point TEW-653AP.
For indoor business class environments with the capability of Guest secure access, you can also consider Cisco AP 500 Series Wireless Access Points. The AP 500 is powered by the wireless -N technology with clustering technology to allow you manage multiple AP devices with a single point of administration.
TP-Link TL-WA5210G Outdoor CPE is an ideal solution for large range of wireless network environments such as in marine industry; gas and oil; or in mining industries.

dear sir,
i have tride to config TL WA5210G with my other TPLINK AP5210G for AP client router mode. I am thank full to you if you send me or tell me how to config these to aps
my E Maill adress aamirmehboob17@yahoo.com
Hi Amiir ,
Need more information, are you configuring first wa5210g as the AP router connected to the broadband internet? and the second one is located in long distance? If so, you need to configure the first wa5210g as the AP router to broadcast the wireless network around the area. Connect the Ethernet port to your modem, and configure the WAN either dynamic (consult with the ISP).
The second wa5210g can be used as the repeater of the first wa5210g. Configure the second device as the AP and in repeater mode of the first one.
how many AP routers does it support. Plz tell me the numbers of AP which can be connected with it as well.
Plz post maximmum numbers of AP and AP routers which it can support easily
How large your long distance network will be? One subnet is big number for long distance clients.
The spec doesn’t specifically mention the maximum number of clients for AP router, but the default subnet is class C subnet.
actually i want to expand my network. To do so, i’ll have to distribute signals for more than 20 clients from 5210. The distance from where it’ll catch the signals is about 5-7 km.plz guide me that would it possible for me to do so without any disturbance to my new clients?
Yes Ebbad you can connect 20 Clients to TPLINK 5210 Easily but not sure about distance, i have connected 25 Clients at distance of 1 to 2 KM
Hello, I am interested to buy a TL-VA5210G and I have one question about the unit,
when I want to connect to the internet i need to set parameters in my LAN settings, as shown on image http://img2.pixhost.org/images/2475/7320603_1.jpg
Is it possible to configure these settings on the device, to access the internet wirelessly??
Tnx in advance!!
Picture corrected http://i55.tinypic.com/2a0kf90.jpg
@datumir: you need to provide more detail information. how do you configure the device: the ap router, the ap or the ap client? the figure shown is the computer tcp/ip config. if you connect the device to the modem, you need to configure it as the router. and your wireless client can connect to the device. Your gigabit ethernet adapter connects to the switch, not to connect wirelessly.
This is scheme: http://i56.tinypic.com/10zo8sz.jpg
On that picture MREZA is network, when i connect notebook, i must set parameters like on first image if i want to go on the internet
I see that your MREZA is local network which connects to the wireless bridge to the remote WLAN network that uses Proxy server to connect to the internet, right? in your clients, why don’t you use the dhcp if there is one in your WLAN side.
Yes you can configure the wa5210 in MREZA as the bridge to conect to the AP in the right side of the figure.
Ok
That’s it.. And just one more question, can the two devices connect to the TL-VA5210G in bridge mode??
Yes off courrse, you need to add a Switch to host more devices. One port connects to the WA5210
Hello
i want to create small wireless network in area of about 2km or less. is it possible to connect directly to this outdoor WA5210g through wireless lancard or laptop . or i have to use AP for each client to access internet.
Yes you can, configure the device as the router AP so your clients can connect to the internet. A wireless client with hi gain directional antenna would be better.
Dear Admin
Can I use the WA5210G to get internet from another building at about 1km distance? If yes do I need two of WA5210G as bridge or I can use one as host to get internet by wifi USB modem on my desktop.
If you have two buildings separated each other and would like to link the two, you can configure the two WA5210g in each building with point to point bridge mode.
The broadcast station should be the WA5210g to provide access to long distance clients.
TL WA5210 is the most best outdoor wireless device made by TP-Link it is reliable affordable and all kind weather proof. Its performance is best in Point to point or WISP Client Mode and in repeater mode. I love more this device to connect with it to my friends and outdoor peoples.
I plan to use the TpLink with the following setup. Will it work?
- use wa5210g as a repeater. It will connect wirelessly to my current wifi router which is connected to the modem.
- wa5210g transmit to a client 3km away
- the client will be a USB wifi adapter to connect to the wa5210g wifi signal
Or do I have to get 2 wa5210g and setup as a bridge. then connect the client using LAN cable?
Thank you
@KK:
You can connect the TL WA5210 to the modem and configure it as the AP router to provide wireless clients at long distance range. You can use the MAC address filter for the clients.
if you need to connect two LANs you can configure the device as the AP mode with wireless bridge.
Thank you for the reply Jack.
I would like keep my current wireless router setup but use wa5210 as an extension to transmit to a client using a normal laptop with wifi. Can I connect the wa5210 wirelessly to my current wifi router? And have it act as a repeater so that the laptop can still logon to my current network from 3km away?
Yes, you can configure the device in AP mode and in Wireless mode setting you can select the “repeater” and type in your router MAC address – the hardware or physical address of the router (not the ip address). generally the MAC / physical address is printed on the router / AP
sir i have 15dbi omni directional antena with bullet2hp
i want to connect with w5210 as a ap…can will connect it?
you meant you have network AP with bullet and you require connecting your wa5210g to network as the wireless bridge or what …?
i have network with bullet2hp….and i want to connect bullet2hp with w5210g like point 2 point connectivity…will it work???
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-glM4A5-WTn4/TtfueLUUnkI/AAAAAAAACA4/rug3A71iVZU/s1600/Network.jpg
look it u will better know what i want
technically you can configure the TL-WA5210G as the Point 2 Point wireless bridge in the 1km building. You need to add the MAC address of your bullet2hp to your TL-WA5210G.
the second building (500m) you can configure the TL-WA5210G as the universal repeater so wireless clients around the building can connect to the AP.
Oh Thank u soo much
I have been using tplink TL wa 5210g.Everything is fine but it is not supporting even 42meters cat6 cable.Short cable works fine.I works smooth when using 18 meters cat6 cable but when i use 42 meters cable, power led lights up but lan led and signal indicater falsh every 4-5 seconds.Computer shows lan disconnected when using 42 meters cable.
Is there any defect with my ap or with poe. Please help me because i am not getting good signal because of short cable.
If you can find that with 18 mtrs your device can work well but not with 42 mtrs, this means the cable problem. Cat5 / Cat6 UTP cable has maximum length 100 mtrs to perform well. Or your POE has a length limitation in injecting the power. Check your POE specification how long can it inject the power to the cable.
I want to ask something.. I just bought one TL WA5210G so I can use it to connect to a neighbours router. Till now I connected from my laptop directly with my window open, but now the winter and cold came and I can’t open the windows anymore so I bought this TP-LINK, but I can’t make it see my neighbours internet.
Is it possible to connect directly through wireless or you really need a ethernet cable?
I’m lost….
firstly you need to know your neighbour ssid and password if you configure it as the wireless client. if you configure it as wireless bridge you need to know the router’s MAC address. with the bridge you can add switch and connect multiple computers to connect wirelessly to the network (router)
Dear All!
I am using Load Balancer R470T+ for sharing internet to my clients which are located at random. I am using 5210G as AP Router mood to transmit signals to clients. I am facing following problems;
1. CAT cable is 50ft long but POE is not supporting bcoz i am facing same problem as described above.
2. I am facing problems in connection with load balancer when i change the default SSID of the 5210G and security settings. I am using DHCP of Load balancer. How can i secure my network???
Waiting for ur nice responses and experiences.
It only works with default settings.
Hello
I am very intersted about it. I have a question. I want connect 2 House (60 meter distance and I can’t use cable) because I can’t detect my modem adsl wifi and I can’t move the modem (house are made with reinforced concrete). I want to know if I need only One TL-WA5210G to connect all computer in the house 2 (See picture: http://img14.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=261288766_househouse_122_378lo.JPG
)
Thank’s
Looking at this picture the distance is not so far but the obstacles may attenuate the signal significantly in house 2. You can configure this TL-WA5210G as the wireless AP. This will cover the second house. The signal strength would be better if you locate the device outdoor on the top of your house. Make sure youenable the security WPA/WPA2
If have a Tl-wa5120G to connect to one of the free wifi points in my town. 1 km away. I tried the Ap client mode to connect wireless to the wifi point and then with a cable connect the antenna to my computer. All seems good only actually surfing the web is not possible. Always some problem. Don’t know what i’m doing wrong…?
if this is a free wifi – it should be a dynamic IP address that the client receives. When you configure the AP client mode, configure “wan connection type” to “Dynamic IP”.
Tried it but it still doesn’t work. In the antenna alignment i get up to a 100 percent signal but trying to open a site doesn’t work. I got the TL on my roof, also have a satellite dish, I think I’ll try to move the TL to the back to avoid interference…
a part from that feels like i tried everything…
Another thing : this TL doesn’t work with macintosh does it? I’m configuring the TL with my wife’s PC.
And then one more thing: Are there better things on the market to capture wifi from long distance away so i don’t have to install router n° 35 in a 1km radius?
Thanks a lot
pls review as you said you tried everything:
- AP client router
- onfigure the tcp/ip of this client adapter to obtain ip address automatically
- test connection by typing “ipconfig /all” from the dos command and see what the ip address you get …inlcuding the gateway, the dns server, this is to make sure you are connected to the hotspot
- run a “ping” command to the gateway address and see if you get a response with 0% packet lost meaning you can connect to the network
- i have no idea if it works with Mac or not
- have a look at Alfa 2000mw long-range wifi adapter as alternate adapter that supports all OS platform inlcuding mac
Dear sir,
I want to start wireless network in my village with internet sharing but unfortunaitly there is no dsl or any internet resource
About 10 to15km away internet service in available in the city
i want to ask that if i use WA5210g and i install this outdoor CPE router on roof then tell me what is the range in km its signal will cover?and it has only directional antenna then if i use omni directional antenna with it them will its signal will cover in all direction?
Have a look at the spec it says the range can be up to 15km with integrated antenna – directional range. You add an Omni directional antenna that broadcast in all directions. TP-link has 15dbi Omni outdoor antenna.
Dear all
I Have 4 TP-Links WA5210G in a wide area. One of which is connected via LAN to a TP-LINK router WR1043R (DHCP server also). One Of the WA5210G is briged (Bridge Point-to-Point) with the TP-LINK connected to the router.
I Configured the other two TP-Links as Universal Repeaters (with the same SSID) but I cant seem to get to DHCP. When I connect via LAN on the POE I can ping the router and the Bridged devices, but can’t get through via Wireless. Any ideas?
cheers
@Zhiel,
Did you also enable the dhcp in the wa5210g and with the range not to overlap with the router. Try to configure the wa5210 with dhcp enable and with different scope and the gateway should point to the router.
IM CURRENTLY USING RELIANCE BROADBAND IN INDIA
ISP – DSL MODEL – WIFI ROUTER(TL-MR3420) – TO CLIENTS WITHIN RANGE OF 200METERS
NOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO REPLACE TL-MR3420 with TP-WA5210G to increase the range for clients upto distance 1k.m (having laptop/mobile/desktop with wifi) ?
if yes than how?
does 5210G supports N series ?
as i have found so many ppl who says that N-series wifi not able to connect with 5210G
also suggest me the way for CAMPUS WIFING
TL-MR3420 is 3G wireless router with one WAN port for ADSL/cable connection. You may replace with this tp-wa5210g and connect to dsl modem. It can work normally but the antenna is not Omni-type antenna which broadcast in all-diretion. It is a directional antenna which focus to certain area.
It’s a wireless G device, not compliant to N devices.
@Ki….. thanks now i configured WA5201g as AP-Router and its working fine… broadcasting signals to long distances.
1.Now, Wireless N Device can connect only With WiFi N Router? I Though it can connect to lower b/g also. On laptop having N Series wifi..its showing but on connecting giving error
2.Im also having TL-ANT2424B antenna.. if i use it with WA5201G than @ how maximum range i cn receive the signals on mobile devices easily?
3.Can you also help me what method is used for Campus WiFing with topology?
Thanks in Advance
Some more queries
can TL-ANT2424B wil be used with any wifi router to increase its range? say with TL-MR3420?
AND WHATS the use of 2 antenna in TL-MR3420? or 3 antennas in other wifi models?
