WGPS606 NETGEAR Print Server is a 54 Mbps Wireless Printer Server, but this is an End of life product. No replacement for this product.
Main features:
- Wireless USB print server
- Two USB 2.0 ports – connect two USB printers for sharing
- Includes four-ports Ethernet switch 10/100Mbps
- Support WEP and WPA-PSK
For small businesses this multi-port print-server is suitable to allow you attach two USB printers for sharing across the network wirelessly with the speed up to 54Mbps – a wireless G standard speed.
Unlike other wireless print servers which include only one USB port for single printer connection, this WGPS606 includes four-port Ethernet switch to let you attach up to four computers to connect to the network as the wireless clients. With the new generation of wireless routers today, sharing a single wireless G device with four computers would not perform optimum throughput.
With high performance wireless router deployed in your home, you will not waste the high bandwidth your router can provide by connecting the router to low bandwidth devices. Connecting the computers to the WGPS606 to connect wirelessly to your high performance network would just waste the available high bandwidth your network can provide. Moreover, the brand new computers are equipped with wireless N adapter. Therefore any types of wireless G print-servers with four-port Ethernet are not necessary today. No wonder Netgear makes this print-server as EOL product.
Today, there are various models of wireless router includes one or two USB ports that allow you connect a printer for sharing, eliminating the requirement of separate wireless print-server device. But not all the wireless routers with USB port can host a printer for sharing. The following routers include USB ports that can host USB printer for sharing:
- Netgear Wndr3800 premium edition includes one port to let you host either storage or printer
- Netgear Wndr4500 includes two USB ports to let you host both storage device and printer together.
- New Asus RT-N56U dual band wireless router includes two USB ports too.
- Belkin N750 DB includes two USB ports
