Building a wireless LAN to support your XBOX is the same as building standard wireless LAN when you share internet connectivity. Except that you need to choose the wireless router that support your XBOX to perform in its best – fast responsive gaming, no glitches and jitter-free.
Even though your wireless XBOX adapter is not based on the latest wireless N technology, you better choose the router that support the latest wireless N technology and is also designed for streaming HD media.
For Cable Broadband
If currently you subscribe for Cable broadband, upgrading your cable modem to support the latest DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with gigabit Ethernet port would be much advantageous such as Surfboard SB6120 or SBV6220 cable modem. Choose your wireless routers that support for gaming such as Linksys E4200 N750 or you may try new D-Link DIR-645 whole home router.
The figure 1 shows you how connection diagram for cable modem and gaming router (in this example DIR-645) which is powered by SmartBeam technology for reliable wireless connection. You need to connect the Gigabit port of your DOCSIS 3.0 modem to the Gigabit WAN port of your router.
In this XBOX wireless LAN diagram, XBOX wireless adapter is not used but DAP-1513 multi-port wireless bridge is used to allow multiple home theater devices connect to the internet together with your HDTV, Blu-Ray and else.
You can do the same thing if your current broadband internet is DSL. Connect your modem-only device to the wireless router (WAN port). Note that there are many router with built-in DSL modem available in the market. In this case, you need to connect your router-modem to the wireless Access Point such as DAP-1525 D-Link Wifi booster.
If you have less experience in networking, you may consider purchase a single device all-in-one wireless N router with built-in modem. For cable broadband, you may consider Surfboard SBG6580 wireless dual band cable router. This is a selectable dual band wireless N300 router with 4xgigabit Ethernet ports. For DSL broadband internet, you may consider DGND3700 N600 simultaneous dual band gigabit ADSL router or you may consider Linksys X2000 DSL modem wireless N router. Both devices include one Ethernet port for Cable modem connection when DSL is not available.
The figure 2 shows you how DGND3700 is used for your XBOX wireless LAN. You just need to connect the phone line to the RJ-11 port of your modem (DGND3700) and one phone call to your ISP for connectivity to the internet. You can use Netgear WNCE3001 universal internet adapter for your XBOX console to connect wirelessly to the network.
